They have signed a founding membership in the China-led World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation (WAICO) at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar went to China to finalize the agreement. He represented Pakistan at a global AI meeting. The meeting is focused on governance, cooperation and the future of intelligence. This move is happening when AI is becoming very important in policy and economic planning. The Foreign Office says Pakistan wants to focus on AI governance. They want to make sure everyone has access to new technologies. They also want to help build capacities for the Global South. Pakistan wants to be part of the AI conversation. They do not want to use technology they want to help shape its direction. Pakistan is joining WAICO to be part of this conversation. The World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2026 in Shanghai is an event. It will have over 140 forums than 1,100 companies and over 3,000 exhibits. The conference is also a platform for talks on AI governance. Pakistans membership in WAICO is significant. For Pakistan this agreement may open doors to cooperation in AI research.
